Ford Mustang Mach-E Home Charger Installation: J1772 Port, 48A & Circuit
The short version: the 2026 Mustang Mach-E keeps a J1772 / CCS charging port and accepts up to 11 kW at 48A, so a 48A J1772 Level 2 charger on a dedicated 60A, 240V circuit charges it as fast as it can go. Every spec below is from Ford's own pages, linked at the end.
J1772, Not NACS — Even in 2026
Unlike the many 2026–2027 EVs switching to the Tesla-style NACS port, Ford's 2026 Mach-E order guide still lists an SAE J1772 CCS port. The NACS adapter for Supercharger access is now an option rather than included. For home charging that means:
- Buy the J1772 version of your home charger — many chargers are now sold in both J1772 and NACS versions, so check before you order.
- A NACS-only charger (such as a Tesla Wall Connector) needs an AC-rated adapter; the Universal Wall Connector has both plugs. See NACS vs J1772 home chargers.
Your Options: Mobile Power Cord vs a 48A Wall Charger
| Setup | Charging current | Circuit |
|---|---|---|
| Ford Mobile Power Cord, Level 1 (120V) | 12A | Existing outlet |
| Ford Mobile Power Cord, Level 2 (240V) | 30A | 240V outlet on a 40A+ circuit |
| Ford Connected Charge Station or any 48A J1772 charger | 48A — the Mach-E's maximum | 60A dedicated |
Ford lists the Mobile Power Cord at 12A on Level 1 and 30A on Level 2, and the Connected Charge Station at up to 48A. Because EV charging is a continuous load, a 48A charger needs a circuit rated at 125% of that: 60A. If your panel is short on capacity, see do you need a panel upgrade.
Is the Charger Still Free?
Ford's Power Promise gave 2026 Mach-E buyers a Level 2 charger and standard installation through September 30, 2026. Ford's Mach-E page still mentions the offer, but we could not confirm a later extension — ask your dealer before you pay for an install yourself.
What Installation Involves
- Panel check — can it carry a new 60A circuit?
- Permit — pulled by your electrician; see who issues EV charger permits in your city.
- Circuit and charger — a dedicated 240V run to the garage or driveway, then the charger mounted and connected.
- Inspection — the permit closes after the local inspection.
Cost depends mostly on the distance from your panel and whether it has room — see EV charger installation cost and rebates by state.
Frequently Asked Questions
What home charger does the Ford Mustang Mach-E need?
A J1772 Level 2 charger that delivers 48A, on a dedicated 60A, 240V circuit. Ford rates the 2026 Mach-E at up to 11 kW AC with 48 amps capability, and its own Ford Connected Charge Station provides up to 48 amps with a J1772 connector.
Does the 2026 Mustang Mach-E have a NACS port?
No. Ford's 2026 Mach-E order guide lists an SAE J1772 CCS charge port. A NACS adapter, which lets the car use Tesla Superchargers, is an option on 2026 models rather than included. At home, buy a J1772 charger.
Is the Mach-E Mobile Power Cord enough for home charging?
It works, slowly. Ford lists the Mobile Power Cord at 12A on Level 1 (120V) and 30A on Level 2 (240V). That is well under the car's 48A capability, which is why a 48A wall charger on a 60A circuit is the usual install.
Does Ford still give a free home charger with the Mach-E?
Ford's Power Promise covered a Level 2 charger and standard installation for 2026 Mach-E buyers through September 30, 2026. Ford's Mach-E page still mentions the offer, but we could not confirm a later extension, so ask your Ford dealer what applies to your purchase before paying for an install.
