Cadillac Lyriq & Optiq Home Charger Installation: 11.5 vs 19.2 kW

The short version: the 2027 Cadillac Lyriq and Optiq both have a native NACS (J3400) port and an 11.5 kW onboard charger as standard, with a 19.2 kW onboard charger on dual-motor all-wheel-drive versions. That one difference decides whether you install a 60A or a 100A circuit. Every spec below is from Cadillac's and GM's own pages.

NACS Port: Optiq First, Lyriq From 2027

The Optiq was the first GM EV with a native NACS port, from the 2026 model year; GM moved the Lyriq and the rest of its EVs for 2027. A 2027 Lyriq or a 2026–2027 Optiq takes a NACS charger directly, or a J1772 charger with an adapter — see NACS vs J1772. GM's PowerUp 2 is sold in both J1772 and NACS versions.

11.5 kW or 19.2 kW: Which Circuit to Install

Onboard chargerGM charger that matches itCircuit
11.5 kW (standard)GM PowerUp 2 — up to 11.5 kW / 48A60A dedicated
19.2 kW (dual-motor AWD)GM Energy PowerShift — up to 19.2 kW / 80A100A dedicated

Both circuits follow the same rule: EV charging is a continuous load, so the circuit is rated at 125% of the charging current (48A → 60A, 80A → 100A). A 19.2 kW car on a 48A charger still charges at 11.5 kW — it simply cannot use its extra capacity — so the 100A setup only makes sense if your car has the 19.2 kW module and your panel can carry it.

What Installation Involves

  1. Panel check and load calculation — especially for a 100A circuit, which a 200A service may not be able to spare.
  2. Permit — pulled by your electrician; see who issues EV charger permits in your city.
  3. Circuit and charger — a dedicated 240V run sized to the charger, then the charger mounted and connected.
  4. Inspection — the permit closes after the local inspection.

Cost depends on the circuit size, the distance from your panel and whether the panel needs work — see EV charger installation cost, panel upgrades and rebates by state.

Frequently Asked Questions

What home charger does the Cadillac Lyriq need?

For the standard 11.5 kW onboard charger, a 48A Level 2 charger on a 60A circuit; GM rates its PowerUp 2 at up to 11.5 kW / 48A. Dual-motor AWD Lyriqs have a 19.2 kW onboard charger, which needs an 80A charger such as GM Energy's PowerShift on a 100A circuit to charge at full speed.

Do the Cadillac Lyriq and Optiq have NACS ports?

The 2027 Lyriq and Optiq both have a J3400 (NACS) port, per Cadillac's spec pages. The Optiq switched first, for the 2026 model year; GM moved the rest of its EVs, including the Lyriq, for 2027. Check an older Lyriq's port before buying a charger with a fixed plug.

Which Lyriq and Optiq trims have 19.2 kW charging?

Cadillac lists the 19.2 kW AC onboard charging module with the dual-motor all-wheel-drive versions of both models; single-motor versions have the standard 11.5 kW module.

Is the cord that comes with the Lyriq enough?

Cadillac includes a 20-ft, 7.7 kW dual-level charging cord with the Lyriq. That works on a suitable 240V outlet but charges well below the 11.5 kW or 19.2 kW the car can accept, which is why most owners install a wall charger.
